Patty ("Patty," "we," "us," or "our") is a burger discovery, rating, and community app. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. 1. Information We Collect
Information you provide
Account information. When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and a username. You can sign up with Apple, Google, or an email and password. If you sign in with Apple, you may choose to hide your email, in which case Apple provides us a private relay email address.
Profile information. Your display name, username, and an optional bio.
Content you create. The burgers and restaurants you rate, your scores, written notes, tags, photos you upload, and the places you save to your wishlist.
Information collected automatically with your permission
Location. With your permission, we use your device's location while you are using the app to find burger spots near you and to place your rated spots on the map. We do not track your location in the background.
Camera and photo library. With your permission, we access your camera and photo library so you can add photos of burgers. We only access photos you specifically choose.
Push notification token. If you enable notifications, we store a push token so we can send you alerts (for example, when someone follows you or a person you follow posts a new rating).
Analytics and usage information
We use a third-party analytics provider (PostHog) to understand how people use Patty — for example, which screens and features are used and how flows perform — so we can improve the app. This includes product-interaction events and basic device information. This data is used only for our own product analytics; we do not use it for advertising and we do not sell it.
2. How We Use Your Information
Create and maintain your account and public profile.
Let you rate burgers, save places, and build your rankings.
Power social features such as following other users, viewing their rankings, and showing community activity.
Show you nearby and recommended burger spots.
Send push notifications you have opted into.
Maintain the safety, security, and proper functioning of the app.
3. Information That Is Public
Patty is a social app. The following information is visible to other users:
Your display name, username, and bio.
Your burger ratings, scores, notes, tags, and photos.
Your follower and following counts and lists.
Please do not include information in your profile, notes, or photos that you do not want to be public. If you use Patty as a guest, you browse anonymously and your activity is not tied to a public profile.
4. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as described below:
With other users, as described in "Information That Is Public" above.
With service providers that help us operate the app:
Google Firebase (authentication, database, and serverless functions) — stores your account, profile, ratings, and social data.
Google Places API — used to search for and display restaurant information; your search queries and approximate location may be sent to Google to return results.
Apple Sign in with Apple — used to authenticate you if you choose that option.
Expo — used to deliver push notifications.
PostHog (product analytics) — collects in-app events such as feature usage and screen views to help us understand and improve how the app is used.
For legal reasons, if required to comply with applicable law, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of Patty or others.
These providers process data on our behalf and are subject to their own privacy policies.
5. Data Retention and Deletion
We keep your information for as long as your account is active.
You can delete your account at any time from within the app: go to the Community tab and tap Delete Account. This permanently deletes your account, your ratings, your photos, your follow relationships, and your profile, and removes your authentication record. This action cannot be undone.
We use industry-standard measures, including the security infrastructure provided by Google Firebase and Apple, to protect your information. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Children's Privacy
Patty is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
8. Your Choices
Location, camera, photos, and notifications can be enabled or disabled at any time in your device's Settings.
Profile information can be edited in the app at any time.
Account deletion is available in the app as described above.
9. International Users
Patty is operated from the United States, and your information is processed and stored in the United States and other locations where our service providers operate. By using Patty, you consent to this transfer and processing.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Effective date" above. Your continued use of Patty after changes take effect means you accept the revised policy.
